Value is a measure of relative lightness or darkness.

Value Contrast can create depth or give 2D images a 3D look. 

Value Pattern is the arrangement and amount of light and dark differences.


Value emphasis is simply creating emphasis with value.

Chiaroscuro is a technique of painting or drawing using light and shade to achieve a three-dimensional quality.

 The relationship between aerial perspective and value is that without a relative lightness in the background and shades in the foreground it would be extremely hard to create this effect.

Shading is the use of value to create many effects such as depth.
